Job is a fascinating example from the Old Testament. He might seem to be not very patient at all, because he bitterly disparages his predicament. Yet, he never curses God as Satan had said he would and as his wife urged him to. Instead, he blesses God and refrains from sinful speech. He places his trust and hope in God, boldly confessing that because his Redeemer lives, he will see God after his own bodily resurrection. God is merciful to Job, and to us, and therefore, we can patiently trust our Savior, Jesus, and joyfully look forward to his second coming. This is a very fitting theme for Advent!
